ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Nanocor, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of AMCOL International Corp. (NYSE: ACO), is licensor of the nanocomposite technology being used by Honeywell for its new Aegis(TM) products, including Aegis NC and Aegis OX, which also contains an oxygen scavenger. Nanocor is supplying its Nanomer(R) grade materials for the Aegis products.
Honeywell announced yesterday that the Aegis line is now commercially available. Aegis products are suitable for use in packaging articles such as films, bottles, and juice cartons in addition to use as an engineering resin for automotive, industrial and consumer products.
Nanocor President Peter Maul said, "We are delighted Honeywell has gone commercial with nylon nanotechnology and Nanocor is excited to be a part of it. One of the pioneers in nanocomposite development, Honeywell's action is yet another signal that plastic nanocomposites have come of age." Nanocor was formed in August 1995 to capitalize on a patented technology that disperses nanoscale particles of chemically modified clays into plastic resins, improving the structural, temperature and barrier properties of many plastics. The company currently holds 29 patents on its technology with 6
approved or pending. In addition, Nanocor has licensed technology from Toyota Central Research and Development, Inc., an early innovator in nanocomposite technology. The company's nanoclay production facility is located in Aberdeen, Miss.
Nanocor's parent company, AMCOL International Corp., produces and markets specialty mineral products used for industrial, environmental and consumer-related applications. The company operates in three industry segments, minerals, environmental and transportation. AMCOL's common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "ACO."
